Architects

Architects are specially trained and qualified to design and planning buildings and various other structures. Every building you seen will have been designed by an architect, even the most mundane buildings will have had to be planned rigorously before they were built, particularly because of the stringent health and safety laws that apply to buildings.

Some architects throughout history have become world famous through the buildings that they have designed. For example, Sir Christopher Wren has gone done in history because of the many notable buildings he designed around London, mostly churches and most famously St. Paul’s cathedral.

Architectural techniques have developed significantly over the years and as knowledge of physics and the capabilities of different materials became more widely known about architects have been able to design unique and highly unusual buildings. There are many highly unusual looking buildings and structures around the world that appear to defy gravity, however various clever design techniques have been implemented along with effective use of appropriate materials to achieve these results.

Many people study towards a career in architecture, and the places at universities for architectural and design courses are highly competitive. Most universities demand quite high grades from applicants to architecture and design courses.  In some cases these courses are longer that standard undergraduate degrees and many people who apply for a job as an architect will soon find that they will require many qualifications in order to get the job.
